Gay and Lesbian Clients
The financial planning goals of most gay men and lesbian clients, couples and families are fundamentally similar, financing retirement, educating children, building wealth, protecting assets, and charting a course toward overall financial independence. Current laws can be challenging; however, making it very important for them to understand where the gaps and hazards are in their financial lives and to address them so their goals and intentions are coordinated and secure. Stuart uniquely understands the financial concerns of his gay and lesbian clients, proudly serving this community since he began practicing in 1986. He offers investment advisory services to his clients which include both socially screened investments, as well as non-screened products. He believes in complementing his services with those of other professionals such as accountants and attorneys who work extensively with gay and lesbian clients and can provide referrals upon request.
A growing part of Stuart's practice is in Long Term Care planning and the use of Long Term Care Insurance in the planning process. Current laws provide challenges to gay and lesbian individuals and couples who are faced with the consequences of an illness or injury striking them or a loved one. Stuart has affiliations with attorneys who work in Elder Care Law and can provide referrals upon request.
Since 2004, Stuart has served on the national board of PridePlanners, www.prideplanners.org, an organization that provides technical expertise to planners, accountants, attorneys, investment advisors/brokers and insurance agents who devote some or much of their practices to the planning needs of gay and lesbian clients and other non-traditional couples and families. Stuart also serves on the Diversity
Committee of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He presented at the FPA 2010 National Conference on Insurance Strategies for Gay Couples and Non-Traditional Families. He has also presented in coordination with Stonewall Communities, the LGBT Aging Project, and Women’s week in Provincetown and was quoted on Money Tips for Gay couples at CBS Money Watch.com.
Stuart has been a proud member of GBBC (www.gbbc.org) since 1990, the Greater Boston Business Council, an organization devoted to helping gay professionals and business owners to network, share business strategies, and offer services within the membership and the community at large. Since August 2006, Stuart has overseen a partnership between GBBC and John Hancock to bring discounted Long Term Care Insurance to GBBC's members, partners, spouses, parents, and children. In 2007, Stuart introduced a similar program to members of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association (www.mlgba.org) including both Long Term Care Insurance and Disability Income Insurance. Stuart is very proud to be working with such a prestigious organization of attorneys.
Stuart's other volunteer work over his career has included conducting over 30 financial workshops to AIDS Action Committee volunteers from 1987 to 1991. Furthermore, he served on the Board of Directors of Positive Directions for 4 years from 1996 to 1999 with the latter two years as its Board President. He followed that up assisting Positive Directions through its strategic planning process. Positive Directions (1987 to 2001) offered peer-led services to the HIV/AIDS community.
